InventionShare Announces AcceleRoute’s™ New One-Hop, Large Scale Geographically Distributed Data Center Switches and Router Designs

Mr. Greg Waite, CEO of InventionShare, announced the release of AcceleRoute’s new energy efficient, no latency network switches for large-scale or geographically distributed data centers.

Globalization, security and disaster recovery considerations are driving businesses to diversify locations across multiple regions. In addition, organizations are looking to distribute workloads between computers, share network resources effectively and increase the availability of applications. With the ultimate goal of eliminating downtime and sharing data across regions, enterprises are deploying geographically dispersed data centers to minimize planned or unplanned downtime. AcceleRoute’s new one-hop, power efficient switches and router designs are less complex and easier to maintain and increase processing capacity and reduce power – and are now available for large scale or geographically distributed data centers.

The AcceleRoute invention portfolio is nine invention families comprised of 19 issued US patents and 11 applications. The CTO is very credible, with over 100 patents filed and significant industry experience at Nortel. AcceleRoute addresses all the key drivers for data center evolution, namely performance, throughput and lower energy costs. A hundred per cent of control traffic and 80% of data traffic has only one hop; there is less network congestion and complexity; it is easier to manage and expand; and there is better utilization of ports and, importantly, much less power consumption and better overall performance. The technology can be implemented on a single or multiple router design as a data center or in a data center and co-exist with current technology.

These patents represent AcceleRoute’s fourth invention family and target a switching system which may serve as a large-scale data center or a geographically distributed network of global coverage. Access nodes interfacing with external network entities (data sources/sinks) are interconnected through independent switches. The access nodes are arranged into formations, each of which encompasses all of the access nodes divided into a number of disjoint sets of nodes.

The access nodes of each set are interconnected through a respective switch and are selected so that each set of access nodes of any formation is orthogonal to each set of access nodes of each other formation. With such a structure, each access node has a set of routes to each other access node, each route of which traversing at most two switches and an intermediate node. With a sufficient number of formations, each access node may have a path to any other access node traversing only one switch.

These designs also increase capacity over current designs. A data center with a capacity of 48 Pbps, for example, is attainable and this capacity is much larger than that of current data center designs.  A wide-coverage network with a capacity exceeding 380 Pbps is attainable and this is much larger than the capacity of current network designs. The designs are also far less complex, and easier to develop and maintain.

Mr. Waite said, “We have this patent portfolio available now for those companies that want to produce a totally new and unique architecture for switches and routers for a large-scale data centers or geographically distributed networks. AcceleRoute’s designs can help to reduce power consumption, increase capacity, and offer a less complex design formation, higher throughput, no queuing and less latency – which all lead to less processing time and processing costs. This is a significant breakthrough and will give one company a serious competitive advantage in the marketplace.”

InventionShare is interested in partnering exclusively with one major company or a consortium. The patents can be purchased and InventionShare is interested in an outright portfolio purchase with a modest carried interest in sub-licensing programs.
